Early Childhood Literacy

Camp Literacy Live

Camp Literacy Live is one of Oldham County Schools’ programs designed to prevent summer learning loss and help get students at or above grade level before the start of the school year. Located at La Grange Elementary, Camp Literacy Live is designed for kindergarteners ready to enter first grade. Using intensive literacy intervention and low teacher/student ratio, Camp Literacy Live’s morning sessions include individual and small group instruction, and afternoon sessions provide hands-on science activities with the Kentucky Science Center. Oldham County Educational Foundation and Metro United Way help make this critical learning camp possible.

“I would like to thank you all for giving my son the opportunity to participate in this program. He was struggling with phonics and sounds. He has greatly improved over these four weeks. You have given him confidence.”

“My son was able to retain what he struggled to learn in kindergarten and then build upon it.”

Preschool sets the stage for all other school success. OCEF provides for resources at Oldham County Preschool – a needs-based parent-involvement preschool (3 years and up) provides services to children within federal poverty guidelines and to children with disabilities. The mission of the OCP program is to provide comprehensive learning and social experiences that prepare these children to enter kindergarten and progress successfully through the school district’s curriculum and learning programs. The program ranks near the top of all state preschool programs and consistently meets and exceeds all the rating standards on comprehensive federal and state preschool reviews.
